I want to have my brewery yeast strain preserved - what do I have to do?

We've tried to make things as easy as possible. First of all decide whether you want us to preserve a pure master culture from which you are already preparing routine propagations or whether you want us to isolate a pure brewery yeast culture from one of your production cultures.

If you already have a master culture you can supply us with a slant of that.

If you don't have a master culture of your brewery yeast then send us a sample of your yeast slurry from a fermentation that performed well.. We'll then isolate and purify a pure brewery yeast culture from it.

Optional analyses at the time of preservation include:

  • Cell and colony morphology
  • Sugar utilization test
  • Flocculation analysis
  • Growth temperature test
  • Phenolic off-flavour gene test
  • Contamination detection
  • DNA fingerprinting of seven different colonies of your brewery yeast

We can propagate brewer's yeasts of all types in volumes which range from a few litres to a few hundred litres. Yeast is grown to order from your brewery yeast culture in our laboratories then shipped to your brewery by courier on ice.

We can propagate ale brewery yeast, stout yeast, lager yeast, wheat beer yeast, specialty (Saccharomycodes) yeasts for non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beers, and yeasts for bottle conditioning, including Brettanomyces strains.
